The White Bay Silos, built in 1921 to store grain and converted to store dry cement in powder form in 1991, these monolithic behemoths have served Sydney for nearly a hundred years.
Apart from a new paint job for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, these heritage listed buildings are essentially in the same form as when they were first created. Being heritage-listed and an iconic part of the Sydney skyline, regular maintenance is required to ensure they serve for some years to come.
Practical Access Solutions is proud to have been a part of the teams that carried out remedial works to these structures both inside and out.
Getting inside these silos can be quite daunting for the newcomer as there’s quite a climb to get out. The only entry is from the top so everything access-wise has to be rigged so that you can recover everyone at a moment’s notice.
